Jan Blog | STREAMing into a New Year | By Monica Morrison

Happy New Year! As we look forward to leaving 2020 behind let’s take a moment to think about how much we have accomplished so far. Right now at Holy Trinity, we have increased student enrollment, seen our exceptional teachers manage to extend their capabilities beyond the classroom and into your homes, every day, all the while integrating STREAM into everything we teach.

Why does STREAM matter so much? It’s important to know that STREAM is not a new curriculum for us, but a philosophical framework for delivering excellence in Catholic education for 21st century learners! STREAM uses an interdisciplinary approach to bridge subject areas that educates students for their future. And in a New Year, that is what we are all doing isn’t it? Looking forward.

Emphasizing the subject areas of STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math has been pushed over many years by the business community to prepare a more agile, educated workforce. It has become evident, however, that economies are equally driven by innovation, creativity and communication nurtured through the “Arts”. Rooted in our faith as a Catholic school, “Religion” is woven throughout all subjects binding together this more holistic approach to your student’s overall education.

STREAM Education makes learning relevant allowing academic concepts to be coupled with increased real life application. Students become involved in hands-on projects where problem solving, collaboration, and the results of their efforts make lessons more relevant than a textbook alone. Increased technology to enhance learning is used, and career connections as well as exposure to working professionals helps answer “Why are we learning this?” STREAM intentionally connects disciplines to drive instruction

It takes a village. STREAM Education recognizes that not only are we working to prepare young people for their future, but for the strong economic future found in our own hometown. It is a partnership between educators, parents and local businesses. Please help support our STREAM initiatives by considering donating during our Many Gifts, One Nation: Day of Giving Event. Holy Trinity is excited to once again partner with FACTS and the NCEA to be part of this great opportunity to further Catholic Education in our community. We encourage you to give when THIS LINK OPENS on Feb 2 & 3, 2021! Donations received will support our Centennial Student Grant and STEM Lab. Last year, with your help, we raised almost $10,000. We pray to do the same this year! And if you can, encourage your local companies to support increasing our 21st century education resources with authentic educational and career-learning opportunities and platforms spanning all STREAM disciplines.

God Bless and best wishes in 2021!
