School – Assistant Principal
Holy Trinity Catholic School, located in the Beaverdale neighborhood of Des Moines, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic academic and religious leader to serve as Assistant Principal for the 2024-2025 school year. The successful candidate must be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of Catholic teachings. Holy Trinity School is a two-section school and currently serves 405 students in preschool through eighth grade.
Job Description: Assistant Principal
Reports to: Principal
Purpose: The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the leadership team to implement building-wide academic and behavioral interventions/supports
Primary Responsibilities
- Student Services
- Prepare and review student 504 accommodation plans in compliance with IDEA.
- Coordinate standardized testing (ISASP, FAST assessments, ACRE, etc.) including testing schedule, make-up testing,
- Work with principal and teachers reviewing data and communicating progress
- Coordinate with Des Moines Public Schools to prepare, implement, and review IEPs for identified students.
- Lead school support services and resources by assisting the Learning Support teachers and Counselor with academic and behavioral student intervention needs.
- Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
- Support teachers in classroom management, discipline, and safety
- Participate in implementing disciplinary policies and procedures related to student behavior and achievement; ensure confidentiality of student records.
- Serve as the leader and internal building coach for the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) team. Disseminate information about PBIS procedures to stakeholders. Assign consequences for inappropriate student behavior according to the PBIS matrix in the student handbook. Assist the teacher leadership team in managing the PBIS shopping carts and shopping days and coordinating PBIS school-wide assemblies.
- Maintain all student disciplinary records, including infraction forms, office referrals, and consequences given per incident
- Maintain and oversee all student attendance records, including tardies
- Respond to difficult and sensitive student, parent, and faculty inquiries
- Communicate proactively with faculty, staff, students, and parents
- Supervise students on campus before and after school; monitor students during lunch, passing periods and other activities, as assigned; discipline students according to established PBIS guidelines.
- Family/Community Partnerships
- Serve as a liaison with the Holy Trinity School and Family Organization; collaborate with parent volunteers to assist with the SFO events and fundraisers throughout the school year and communicate between the SFO, staff, and community
Additional Leadership Duties:
- Attend regular staff meetings, student/parent meetings, and other meetings as directed by the Principal
- Assist Principal in teacher supervision and evaluation
- Assist Principal in completion of Diocesan and State Reporting
- Assist the Principal in planning school wide professional development
- Assist the Principal if necessary in preparing and presenting reports, letters, memos, and other necessary correspondence to students, staff, and parents
- Serve on school committees such as the Site Intervention Team, Guiding Coalition, Student Support Team, Building Leadership Team, and other committees as assigned by the Principal
- Arrange for substitute teachers

Successful candidate must be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of Catholic teaching and doctrines and must hold valid Iowa administrative license with evaluator approval. The Elementary teacher will collaborate with other teachers to prepare and create lessons in the general education classroom. The teacher will use the Diocesan Curriculum and Iowa Core Curriculum to identify the essential concepts and skills that will be taught in their grade level. The teacher will collaborate with other classroom teachers on a regular basis to improve and enhance student learning. This position requires a degree in Elementary Education with a State of Iowa teaching license.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Technology Teacher will use the Diocesan Curriculum and Iowa Core Curriculum to identify the essential concepts and skills that will be taught in each grade level (PreK-8). The teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers on a regular basis to improve and enhance technology integration within the classroom. The teacher will also assist with technology-based management tasks directly related to student learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES – Classroom Teaching:
- Curriculum
- Research and maintain an up to date technology curriculum map, including specific skills and objectives to be mastered at each grade level. Curriculum map should encompass the following technology skills:
- Hardware and software
- Multimedia
- Information organization/storage
- Information sharing and collaboration (Social Media)
- Digital communication
- Word processing
- Data storage, analysis, and graphing
- Presentation tools
- Keyboarding
- Implement technology curriculum for grades PreK-8
- Evaluate and report student progress using regular formative and summative assessments
- Collaborate with classroom teachers when appropriate in order to identify natural cross-curricular or interdisciplinary connections related to technology

RESPONSIBILITIES — Collaboration with Teachers:
- Student Testing
- Assist with training teachers on use of electronic testing programs
- Assist with proctoring electronic testing programs
- Create and implement electronic testing schedules in collaboration with teachers
- Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Meet at least once a month with each grade level professional learning community
- Identify ways to integrate classroom content with technology skills using interdisciplinary techniques
- Share ideas for technology resources/applications that could be implemented in the general education classroom
- Update and assist classroom teachers with new technology materials/resources
RESPONSIBILITIES — Data Management:
- PowerSchool
- Run, print, and disseminate requested reports
- Assist teachers in setting up and managing classroom gradebooks
- Run report cards each trimester
- Close out Power School and prepare for annual rollover at the end of the school year
- Student Testing
- Maintain and monitor use of technology hardware and software for electronic testing
- Assist with managing databases for electronic testing (passwords, registration, class assignments, etc.)
- Run, print, and disseminate requested reports after electronic testing
REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education degree/State of Iowa Licensure
- Working knowledge of best practice in technology instruction
- Willingness and capacity to learn about technology
- Ability to work well with students ages 5 through 15

Substitute Authorization Requirements
- Complete all approved course requirements of Substitute Authorization: Fostering Student Learning as a Substitute.
- Obtain an associate’s degree OR bachelor’s degree OR 60 semester hours of credit from a regionally accredited institution OR complete an approved paraeducator certification program and hold a paraeducator certificate.
- Age 20 or older.
- Complete an Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation background check.
- Complete a national criminal history background check.
