July Blog | One Remarkable Summer | By John Mertes

Life has changed radically in a very short period of time for so many of us that we find ourselves seeking things that are constant, somewhat unchanged. Unprecedented. Socially Distant. Heroic. These are many of the words being used to describe our new normal. I’d like to offer one more: Remarkable.

Yes, our world has been rocked, but the foundation that we have built with our faith has remained the same. We have shifted from in-person to online for many things but our passion, our purpose, our presence of mind has been constant, remarkably so.

And we will continue this July with something that so many look forward to: Vacation Bible School. This Holy Trinity summer highlight will be virtual this summer, the week of July 20 – 24, but just as remarkable as ever.

The theme for 2020 “Rocky Railway, Jesus Pulls us Through!” is so appropriate in light of the pandemic and quarantine. Participant applications can be found on our parish website at www.holytrinitydm.org for kids entering grades K-5 in the fall. Leader applications for kids entering grades 6-12, and for adults that would like to be a part are there as well (Leader fee for this year will be $10 to help cover T-shirt costs).

Cost for Participants will be $40 and includes a swag bag filled with:

  • VBS t-shirt that with the Holy Trinity Centennial logo

  • Cool crafts for the week

  • CD with all the music

  • Bible Buddies

  • Watch for God Bracelet

  • A few extra goodies

Applications can be sent in via email or dropped off in the parish office. Hurry! The deadline is Monday, July 6th

Finally we will shift from virtual to in-person on the last day of VBS, Friday, July 24 as we host a picnic on the back lawn at Holy Trinity so we can gather as a community to celebrate this unprecedented, socially distant, heroic, remarkable week together.

Please contact me at johnm@holytrinitydm.org or 515 255 3162 X224 if you have questions! And, continue that remarkable approach to finding the good in whatever God sends our way.

Peace.
