Free Meals Ending in 2022/2023
When the 2021/2022 school year ended, so did free meals for every student. The federal government funded a program that allowed all students access to free meals during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Congress declined to continue funding this program. This means all households need to carry a positive balance in their student’s school meal accounts when school begins in the fall of 2022.
Free and Reduced Price School Meals
Holy Trinity Catholic School follows the National School Lunch Program which allows us to offer Free and Reduced Price School Meals to households that qualify. Applications can be completed at any time during the school year. This is a confidential application process. All applications are to be turned in to the Director of Nutrition Services.
Making Payments to Student Meal Accounts
Payments made by cash and check can be sent to school in an envelope labeled “Lunch Money” with the student’s name, grade, and teacher. Households sending one check for multiple students must indicate on the envelope how much money to apply to each account.
MySchoolBucks provides a convenient and secure online prepayment service to deposit money into student school meal accounts at any time. Visit MySchoolBucks.com to create an account using student school lunch ID#. This school lunch ID# is sent home with students at the beginning of the academic year. Contact the Director of Nutrition Services for assistance.
Birthday Treats Policy
Students enjoy celebrating their special day with their classmates. We encourage birthdays to be celebrated with non-food items such as pencils, erasers, stickers, bookmarks, etc. Households may also choose to participate in the Birthday Book Club! This involves donating a book to the classroom library or the Media Center in the name of the student having the birthday.
We make a conscious effort to model a healthy environment among our staff and students daily; this is in the accordance with the Healthy Kids Act established by the Iowa Legislature to promote a healthy lifestyle for students. When electing to celebrate with food, it must be ordered through the school cafeteria by contacting the Director of Nutrition Services. Please order at least two weeks before the event. No outside food will be allowed for birthday treats.
Holy Trinity Wellness Plan
Holy Trinity is a Team Nutrition School. We work closely with the USDA to continuously improve and promote the health of our school children. As a Team Nutrition School, we serve lunches that are lower in fat and sodium and include more grains, vegetables, and fruit. In addition to hot lunch, an extensive ala carte table is available for Grades 4 through 8 during lunch.
