Being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education is considered the highest honor an American school can achieve. Since 2008, only about 3.9% of schools nationwide have been recognized with this honor. Since 2001, five diocesan schools have been selected as National Blue Ribbon Schools. Holy Trinity Catholic School is one of those. Our Iowa Assessment scores are consistently higher in all areas (reading, math, science) than the state and nation.
The National Blue Ribbon School award distinguishes and honors schools for helping students achieve at very high levels and making significant progress in closing the achievement gap. Â The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in the student achievements to high levels. The schools are selected based on one of two criteria:
- Schools whose students, regardless of background, achieve in the top 10% of their state on state tests, or in the case of private schools in the top 10% of the nationally-formed tests
- Schools with at least 40% of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance to high levels on state tests
