It is with profound joy and tremendous gratitude that I share with you the news of my Ordination to the Priesthood on June 25th, 2021 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Parish in Ankeny, Iowa! During the last eight years in seminary, my heart has been increasingly conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ, the High Priest. On the evening of the Ordination, Bishop William Joensen will confer upon me the Sacrament of Holy Orders in which he will continue the ancient symbol of the Laying on of Hands (Acts 6:6) and anoint my hands with Oil of Sacred Chrism. Following the Rite of Ordination, I will indeed be a Priest forever.
As a Priest, I will regularly administer the Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, Matrimony, Anointing of the Sick, and the Celebration of the Most Holy Eucharistic. When faced with such a beautiful life-long calling, I can only ask myself, “Who am I to receive such a gift?”. If you are receiving this invitation, then it means that you too have played a role in guiding me along this path – a path that has brought me so much joy and purpose – a path that has transformed my greatest suffering into the greatest blessings – a path that is Jesus Christ himself.
In total, there will be five men ordained to the Priesthood in Des Moines, which is the most the Diocese has ordained in nearly twenty years! Given the residual restrictions for large groups, I will be unable to welcome a large gathering of people to the Ordination Mass. You are most welcome to come attend my Mass of Thanksgiving the following day on Saturday, June 26th at
1:00pm at Holy Trinity Parish in Beaverdale, Iowa. I hope to see you all soon and share the joy I have been given during these many blessed years.
